Happy Holidays to all our Kindergarten families.  We hope your holidays are restful and fun!  We look forward to seeing everyone back at school in January. We have had a great week at school.  We continue to explore the numbers 1-10 by reviewing number lines and filling blanks number spaces in on a number line.  We reviewed patterns by making strings of Christmas lights with patterns and labelling our patterns with the letters such as AB, ABB, or ABC. We focussed on the letter D this week.  We learned the D song, practiced printing D, and drew pictures that start with D.  We have learned the following letters and letter sounds at school this fall and your child should be familiar with them all: S, M, T, I, P, N, D, C, P, O, A, B & G. This week at school was Gingerbread week.  We read many versions of the gingerbread man story (gingerbread girl, gingerbread baby, ninjabread man ).  We talked about setting, characters, problem and solution. Ask your child what their favourite story was and why.  We did a guided drawing of a gingerbread house, we drew gingerbread people and houses in our journals, we made our own gingerbread people out of fun foam and we used loose parts to build gingerbread houses for our people. We focused on the letter G this week.  We learned the letter G song, practiced printing the letter G and learned about words that start with the letter G. Volunteers Needed to help with Winter Crafts AM Kindergarten is looking for 4 volunteers on Friday December 15 from 9:15-10:30am to help us with Winter Crafts. PM Kindergarten is looking for 2 volunteers on Thursday December 14 from 2:00-3:00pm to help with Winter Crafts. This week in Kindergarten we have continued with our author study of Jory Johns book.  We read "The Smart Cookie", "The Sour Grape", "The Big Cheese" and "The Couch Potato".  We continued to work on our fine motor skills as we completed a guided drawing of each character in the story. We continued to explore the zones of regulation at school this week.  We learned about the red and yellow zones.  Please ask your child what feelings are in each zone. We continue to explore writing in our personal journals on Writing Wednesday.  Learners are encouraged to copy print and label their pictures with the beginning sounds they hear in words. In math, we began to explore number lines.  We played race to 10 as we rolled the dice and counted on the number line. Library Book Exchange  Please note there is no library book Wednesday November 22.  The library will be closed next week as it will become "Frosty's Book Shop" for the Scholastic Book Fair.  Regular weekly library will return Wednesday November 29.   Scholastic Book Fair  Kindergarten will preview the book fair on Tuesday November 21.  Learners will have the opportunity to window shop at the book fair.  The book fair will be open during parent teacher conferences, if you wish to stop in and shop with your child.  Alternately, you are welcome to send money in a clearly labelled baggie or envelope on Wed or Thurs and they can make their purchases during school time. This week we learned about Remembrance Day. We learned about the significance of the poppy and talked about peace. We talked about what peace means to each of us. We read, 'The Peace Book' by Todd Parr and 'A Poppy Is To Remember'. We sketched poppies and sponge painted them.  AM Kindergarten attended a Remembrance Day Assembly led by the Mrs. Paterson and Mrs. Cox's Grade 3/4 . We read, 'Thinking Thoughts and Feeling Feelings'. We continued to talk about our feelings. We talked about the importance of naming our feelings.  We talked about how we can work together to create even though we each have our own unique ideas.  We wrote in our personal journals on "Writing Wednesday" and continue to explore our feelings.  We answered the question "I feel ________ when _______."
