We had a busy week at school!  We continued to look at shapes. We looked at shapes in our world and found shapes in our classroom. We read, City Shapes and then created our own shape cities in our visual journals.  We learned about colours. We read, "Mix It Up" and talked about primary colours. We experimented with the primary colours paints to see what colours we could make. We used plasticine and mixed the primary colours to make secondary colours. We looked for colours in nature.  We looked at numbers 7, and 8. We used loose parts to create the numbers. We practiced printing the numbers and learned about the different ways to show the numbers in our mathematical thinking.  Wednesday is Writing Wednesday in Kindergarten.  Each Wednesday we write and draw pictures in our personal journals.  This is an opportunity for students to write their stories.  Learners are encouraged to draw detailed pictures using colors that make sense.  We have begun to ...

At school we continue to explore the ideas of being kind in Kindergarten.  We listened to stories about how to show kindness towards others.  We drew pictures of how to be kind at school. We continue to work on strengthening our fine motor skills.  We learned the correct way to use scissors.  Ask your child what it means to not have "chicken wings" when cutting.  We snipped paper and used the paper to create our names. This week in Kindergarten we continued to focus learning the routines of our classroom.  We have read many stories talking about how we treat each other and our space at school.  AM Kindergarten had their first fire drill practice this week.  Please ask your child the rules for a fire drill. We start our day with arrival centres where we work at tables to complete literacy, math and fine motor tasks. Our favourite part of the day is big centres.  This includes playing at the house centre, lego, dollhouse, painting, dinosaurs and trains.  We are working on sharing materials and cleaning up when we are finished playing. We continue to work on our fine motor skills as we explored the book "Lines that Wiggle".  We drew a variety of lines in our journals and used watercolours to paint our design.  We continued to work on strengthening our fingers as we ripped paper to create the first letter of our name. Wednesday is "Writing Wednesday" in Kindergarten....

Thank you all for a great first week of Kindergarten.  We have enjoyed meeting all the learners and getting to know them better. We have spent the week working on the routines in our classroom.  This includes, changing to our indoor shoes when we arrive at school, learning how to line up,  putting our hand up when we want to share something with the large group and learning the rules of the gym/music room. We are working to further develop our fine motor skills by printing with pencils, drawing with sharpies, painting with watercolours, colouring with pencil crayons, playing with playdoh and writing on white boards with whiteboard markers. We read many stories including "I Promise" where we talked about the promises we can make in the classroom to help our classroom run smoothly. We started exploring numbers.  We practiced printing the numbers 1 & 2. Our classes had their first music classes with Mrs. Coulson this week. Your child brought home their first library...
