Thank you all for a great first week of Kindergarten.  We have enjoyed meeting all the learners and getting to know them better.

We have spent the week working on the routines in our classroom.  This includes, changing to our indoor shoes when we arrive at school, learning how to line up,  putting our hand up when we want to share something with the large group and learning the rules of the gym/music room.

We are working to further develop our fine motor skills by printing with pencils, drawing with sharpies, painting with watercolours, colouring with pencil crayons, playing with playdoh and writing on white boards with whiteboard markers.

We read many stories including "I Promise" where we talked about the promises we can make in the classroom to help our classroom run smoothly.

We started exploring numbers.  We practiced printing the numbers 1 & 2.

Our classes had their first music classes with Mrs. Coulson this week.

Your child brought home their first library book this week.  Library book exchange will happen weekly.  More details will follow as to our library day.

Your child brought home their coloured folder for the first time this week.  This folder is used to send information to and from school.  Please complete all forms in the folder and return the folder to school.  We will store the folders at school until we need to send something home again.

Please send a snack that your child can open independently.  Please pre-cut corners of packages or place in containers that your child open by themselves.

Monday April 22 is Earth Day.  We read "The Earth Book" by Todd Parr and completed a guided drawing of his cover page.  We used watercolor paper and paint to finish our project.  We learned about ways we can help to take care of the Earth.  Please ask your child for some of the ways they can help to take care of of our planet. We continue to be excited about our 8 duck eggs. The eggs are in the incubator set up in our class and will be learning about and watching our eggs over the next couple of weeks to see how the eggs change. Thursday June 20

This week we focused on Fairy Tales. We read, Goldilocks and The Three Bears, Jack and the Beanstalk and The Three Little Pigs. We read several versions of the stories. We talked about the characters, setting and the problem in each of the stories. Our learners drew pictures to share about each story in their visual journals. We worked on addition and subtraction to 10 by playing a variety of games.  We did literacy centers and focused on skills such as alphabet recognition, letter and sound matching games, reading 3 letter words (cvc-consonant vowel consonant ), and reading high frequency words (such as you, it, in, is, to, the, that etc.) Upcoming Dates Friday June 21:  PM Kindergarten Field Trip to Butterfield Acres Wednesday June 26: Last Day of Kindergarten- Sports Day and Spirit Day - Wear red and white

We had an exciting week with our ducklings ! AM Kindergarten named our first duckling Oreo and PM Kindergarten named our second duckling Sunflower. We took all names and then drew 4 names which the children then voted on. We spent a lot of time this week, watching the ducklings wander about in the classroom and learn to swim. Thursday we had a third duckling hatch. Mrs. Coulson and Mrs. Mask had to help the little one to get out, and I am happy to say the duckling is thriving :)  This week was all things ducklings. We continued to work in our Duck journals, we did more duck art, finished our plasticine and continued to read about and watch videos about ducks. We worked on our Quack and Count retelling to share with our families at the celebration of learning. We played a variety of subtraction games .
