Thursday September 28
We had a busy week at school! We continued to look at shapes. We looked at shapes in our world and found shapes in our classroom. We read, City Shapes and then created our own shape cities in our visual journals.
We learned about colours. We read, "Mix It Up" and talked about primary colours. We experimented with the primary colours paints to see what colours we could make. We used plasticine and mixed the primary colours to make secondary colours. We looked for colours in nature.
We looked at numbers 7, and 8. We used loose parts to create the numbers. We practiced printing the numbers and learned about the different ways to show the numbers in our mathematical thinking.
Wednesday is Writing Wednesday in Kindergarten. Each Wednesday we write and draw pictures in our personal journals. This is an opportunity for students to write their stories. Learners are encouraged to draw detailed pictures using colors that make sense. We have begun to explore with print and learners are encouraged to copy words from the board and/or record any words that they may be able to independently write such as mom/dad.
We learned about the meaning behind Orange Shirt Day. We watched a videos and read stories and learned about Phyllis and her orange shirt. We talked about how every child matters and why it is so important to spread kindness to everyone.
We spent most of Thursday outside exploring our space. We talked about Fall and the changes we could see. We did a paint chip colour matching to nature, we used nature items to make the first letter of our names. We read, "The Sharing Circle" and had our own sharing circle shared what makes us happy. We used a talking stick and talked about being respectful of each person in the circle. We need to wait for our turn patiently and use active listening while our friends are sharing.
In gym, we practiced movement (hopping, running, galloping, skipping, running, marching) and throwing and tossing with bean bags. We played a variety of activities to reinforce these skills.
We send home a brown bag with a note attached in our your child's colored folder. We are having your child do a show and share with 3 items. We are asking for a family photo, an item that makes your child unique and an item that makes your child happy. (See note for the specific details) Please return the bag by October 5th. Thanks !
