We focused on letter B.  We learned the B song, learned about words that start with B, the sound it makes, and practiced printing the letter B.  By now your child should be able to share the name and sound of the following letters S, A, T, I, M,P,O, N and B. We continued to work with using number lines. We practiced moving forwards and backwards on the line, learning that a number line is a tool to help us count. We played race to 10 and used the number line to solve number problems. We had library and music this week.   We started an author study on Jory John. This week we read, The Bad See, The Good Egg  and The Cool Bean. We did guided drawing of the main character from each book. Please return your forms for Food Impact in you haven't done so already. Thursday November 23

We continued to explore the zones of regulation at school this week.  We learned about the red and yellow zones.  Please ask your child what feelings are in each zone. We continue to explore writing in our personal journals on Writing Wednesday.  Learners are encouraged to copy print and label their pictures with the beginning sounds they hear in words. In math, we began to explore number lines.  We played race to 10 as we rolled the dice and counted on the number line. Library Book Exchange  Please note there is no library book Wednesday November 22.  The library will be closed next week as it will become "Frosty's Book Shop" for the Scholastic Book Fair.  Regular weekly library will return Wednesday November 29.   Scholastic Book Fair  Kindergarten will preview the book fair on Tuesday November 21.  Learners will have the opportunity to window shop at the book fair.  The book fair will be open during parent teacher conferences, if you wish to stop in and shop with your child.  Alternately, you are welcome to send money in a clearly labelled baggie or envelope on Wed or Thurs and they can make their purchases during school time. This week we learned about Remembrance Day. We learned about the significance of the poppy and talked about peace. We talked about what peace means to each of us. We read, 'The Peace Book' by Todd Parr and 'A Poppy Is To Remember'. We sketched poppies and sponge painted them.  AM Kindergarten attended a Remembrance Day Assembly led by the Mrs. Paterson and Mrs. Cox's Grade 3/4 . We read, 'Thinking Thoughts and Feeling Feelings'. We continued to talk about our feelings. We talked about the importance of naming our feelings.  We talked about how we can work together to create even though we each have our own unique ideas.  We wrote in our personal journals on "Writing Wednesday" and continue to explore our feelings.  We answered the question "I feel ________ when _______." This was a busy week at school! Thank you to everyone who dressed up in their Halloween costumes - we had a very spooky day at school. We read the story 5 Little Pumpkins and then used sharpies and watercolours to create pictures of 5 pumpkins sitting on a gate.  We played "mystery number" where we drew a haunted house.  We were then given a secret number and had to draw that many ghosts in our haunted house.  We asked our friends to count our ghosts and try and guess our mystery number. We practiced printing the letter M and learned the M song.  We drew pictures in our personal journals. We introduced Zones of Regulation with Kindergarten.  Zones of regulation is divided into 4 colour, green, blue, red, yellow.   Zones of Regulation   is a complete social-emotional learning curriculum, created to teach children self-regulation and emotional control.  Throughout the month of November we will explore our feelings and strategies to help us when...
