Thursday November 2

This was a busy week at school!

Thank you to everyone who dressed up in their Halloween costumes - we had a very spooky day at school.

We read the story 5 Little Pumpkins and then used sharpies and watercolours to create pictures of 5 pumpkins sitting on a gate.  We played "mystery number" where we drew a haunted house.  We were then given a secret number and had to draw that many ghosts in our haunted house.  We asked our friends to count our ghosts and try and guess our mystery number.

We practiced printing the letter M and learned the M song.  We drew pictures in our personal journals.

We introduced Zones of Regulation with Kindergarten.  Zones of regulation is divided into 4 colour, green, blue, red, yellow.  Zones of Regulation is a complete social-emotional learning curriculum, created to teach children self-regulation and emotional control.  Throughout the month of November we will explore our feelings and strategies to help us when we are feeling dis-regulated.

We continue to explore patterning in math.  We are learning about the core of the pattern, using letters to name our patterns and using our bodies to make patterns.

We had library with Mrs. Carde, gym with Mrs. Watterson and music with Mrs. Coulson.  Please ask your child what they did when they were learning in other areas of the school.

We continue to work with Jen from E-Motion.  Please ask your child what they are learning about.

A notice went home today about Eric Havie Clothing for sale. If you would like to purchase any clothing, see the notice for information.

Some additional ideas that you can choose to do at home:

-Letter M practice. Can you find items at home that begin with M? Have your child look through flyers and cut out letter a or pictures that begin with a M. Your child can practice printing the letter a using chalk, pencil, marker, playdough etc.

- Patterns - please have your child look at home, inside and outside for patterns that appear in their environments.

Please work with your child to set them up for success on learning to put on and zip up their jackets independently. Especially with the cooler weather, it makes dismissal time run much smoother when children can do their winter gear independently. Thank you :)
