Thursday October 5
Thank you to all our families who returned their child's show and share bags. We have begun to share our bags look forward learning more about your child as they share their bag. It will take us a couple of weeks to share our bags.
We have started to learn the alphabet at school. This week we focussed on letter S. We learned the S song, learned about words that start with S, the sound it makes, and practiced printing the letter S.
We continued to explore numbers to 10 by exploring numbers 9 and 10. We used white boards to practice writing the numbers.
We continue to work on building a community in our classroom. We read "Have you Filled A Bucket Today?" and drew pictures to represent how we can fill someone's bucket. We read, "Kindness is my Superpower" and talked about ways to spread kindness to others. We did a guided drawing of a superhero and talked about what our superpower would be.
We reflected on the month of September and drew pictures in our journal of important events that happened at school in September.
Writing Wednesday: We learned about 5 Star drawing. Please see poster below. As writers we are learning to add details to our drawings, use colours that make sense, take our time, colour in the line and no scribbling. Learners are also encouraged to add familiar words to their writing such as their name, mom or dad.
PM Kindergarten had their first fire drill. They did a good job at following the 3s rule (Safe, Serious and Silent)
Today was fun snack. If you would like to order fun snack for your child please visit the healthy hunger website (www.healthyhunger.ca) to create an account and purchase it for your child. A notice was sent home at the beginning of the year to share about fun snack.
Some additional ideas that you can choose to do at home:
-Letter S practice. Can you find items at home that begin with s? Have your child look through flyers and cut out letter s or pictures that begin with s. Your child can practice printing the letter s using chalk, pencil, marker, playdough etc.
-Dice and card games. Play cooperative board games at home that require rolls a dice and moving that many space.
Card games such as number war. Divide the deck in half and each player flips the top card. The highest number wins the cards. Play until someone has all the cards.
Please work with your child to set them up for success on learning to put on and zip up their jackets independently. Especially with the cooler weather, it makes dismissal time run much smoother when children can do their winter gear independently. Thank you :)
