Thursday October 19

This week we began to explore our 5 senses.

Using our sense of sight we played a memory game with a partner.  We were given a bag with 6 objects in it and a partner to play with.  One partner hid an object behind their back, then the partner had to use their sense of sight to figure out what object was missing.

Using our sense of hearing we played the mystery sound game.  We listened to sounds on the Smartboard and then drew a guess on a whiteboard of what we thought we heard.  We loved trying to guess the sounds we heard - it was much harder than we thought!

Using our sense of taste, we taste tested various colours of apples. We watched a video that talked about how our taste buds work. We learned words such as sweet, salty and sour when talking about our tastebuds.  We made a graph of our favourite apples tastes.

This week we focused on letter T.  We learned the T song, learned about words that start with T, the sound it makes, and practiced printing the letter T.

In math we have begun to explore patterning.  We used manipulatives to create patterns.  We learned about how patterns repeat and we learned what the core of the pattern is.  The core is the part of the pattern that repeats.

Please note: there was no library book exchange this week.  Regular book exchange will return Wednesday October 25.

Growing Smiles Fundraiser. A notice was sent home with PM Kindergarten today (AM Kindergarten on Monday) about the Growing Smiles Fundraiser. Please visit the https://ericharvie.growingsmilesfundraising.com/home to place an order

Some additional ideas that you can choose to do at home:

-Letter T practice. Can you find items at home that begin with T? Have your child look through flyers and cut out letter a or pictures that begin with a T. Your child can practice printing the letter a using chalk, pencil, marker, playdough etc.

-Dice and card games. Play cooperative board games at home that require rolls a dice and moving that many space.

- Patterns - please have your child look at home, inside and outside for patterns that appear in their environments

Please work with your child to set them up for success on learning to put on and zip up their jackets independently. Especially with the cooler weather, it makes dismissal time run much smoother when children can do their winter gear independently. Thank you :)
