Thursday October 12

This week we focused on letter A.  We learned the A song, learned about words that start with A, the sound it makes, and practiced printing the letter A.

We continued to explore numbers to 10. We used whiteboards to practice writing the numbers from 1-10.We played a variety of math games using dice to practice counting and subitizing (recognizing a number at a glance).  We read, "10 Black Dots" and made pictures using dots to represent a number.

We started our E-Motion residency. The kindergarten class had 2 sessions with Jen. The residency focuses on movement and expression of our emotions.

Writing Wednesday:  We learned about "swirly printing" as a way to tell our stories.  Children are encouraged to add swirls to their pictures as they tell their story.  Learners are also encouraged to add familiar words to their writing such as their name, mom or dad.  Please see the poster below to refer to the type of writing we will be doing in Kindergarten as the year progresses.

We continued to share our Show and Share bags. We are enjoying getting to know all of our friends in the class.

Some additional ideas that you can choose to do at home:

-Letter A practice. Can you find items at home that begin with A? Have your child look through flyers and cut out letter a or pictures that begin with a. Your child can practice printing the letter a using chalk, pencil, marker, playdough etc.

-Dice and card games. Play cooperative board games at home that require rolls a dice and moving that many space.

Card games such as number war. Divide the deck in half and each player flips the top card. The highest number wins the cards. Play until someone has all the cards.

Please work with your child to set them up for success on learning to put on and zip up their jackets independently. Especially with the cooler weather, it makes dismissal time run much smoother when children can do their winter gear independently. Thank you :)
