This week we worked on rhyming word families. We practice reading and writing the words from the following word families "at", "en", "ig" and "og". We read stories and wrote rhyming words and drew pictures in our visual journals. In math, we played a variety of number games. We continue to work on adding numbers together and counting on from the biggest number. We played a domino game which matched dominos to the numeral, we played addition war and addition Yahtzee. We began to learn about problem solving and looked for clues to tell us if it was an addition or subtraction problem.  We did free choice journals and are working at writing simple sentences to express our ideas. Our learners are encouraged to label their drawing with beginning sounds and we are encouraging them to stretch out the words and write beginning, middle and end sounds in words. We are building on our high frequency words. We have learned: the, you, it, is, in, I, to , said,...

We took all names and then drew 4 names which the children then voted on. We spent a lot of time this week, watching the ducklings wander about in the classroom and learn to swim. Thursday we had a third duckling hatch. Mrs. Coulson and Mrs. Mask had to help the little one to get out, and I am happy to say the duckling is thriving :)  This week was all things ducklings. We placed the incubator in lockdown today and hope to see the ducklings start to hatch on Monday.  We read "Quack and Count" which is a story about ducks and adding to 7. We are creating our own Quack and Count story in our class. We created our own painted paper and make ducks to retell the story.  We continued to learn about subtraction and played a variety of games to reinforce our learning.  We continued to look at some high frequency words, we have been practicing the following words the, a, is, it, in, you, can, see, and, the, for, that.
